Consumer:Amphotericin B lipid complex is substantially less nephrotoxic than traditional amphotericin B but may still cause hypo- and hyperkalemia, hypomagnesemia, and hypocalcemia secondary to renal impairment. Renal function and serum electrolytes should be monitored in all patients receiving therapy with amphotericin B lipid complex but particularly closely in patients with preexisting electrolyte abnormalities. Mineral and electrolyte supplementation may likely be required. Complications of electrolyte imbalances include muscle weakness, tetany, seizures and cardiac disturbances.
