JC virus infections resulting in progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) have been reported in patients treated with these agents. A diagnosis of PML should be considered in any patient presenting with new-onset neurological manifestations, and a consultation with a neurologist is recommended. Care should be exercised when giving these drugs to patients with a history of recurring or chronic infections as they are at an increased risk of infections. Do not start therapy in patients with an active infection.
