Consumer:

Direct-acting antiviral agents against the hepatitis C virus, alone or in combination with other hepatitis C virus (HCV) direct acting antiviral therapies have been associated with hepatitis B reactivation in HCV/HBV coinfected patients who were undergoing or had completed treatment with these agents, and who were not receiving HBV antiviral therapy. HBV reactivation has also been reported in patients receiving certain immunosuppressant or chemotherapeutic agents; the risk of HBV reactivation associated with treatment with HCV direct-acting antivirals may be increased in these patients. Therefore, screening for viral hepatitis should be performed in accordance with published guidelines before starting therapy with direct-acting antiviral agents against the hepatitis C virus in immunosuppressed patients. Monitor these patients with evidence of current or prior HBV infection for clinical and laboratory signs of hepatitis flare or HBV reactivation.
